Lanzarote is set in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of West Africa – and is part of the Spanish owned island chain called the Canaries. Which are famed for offering great weather all year round along with excellent accommodation and dazzling beaches.
The Canary Islands enjoy a semi tropical climate and are a year round holiday destination. Making them the second most visited region in Spain after Catalonia, with around 9 million foreign tourists a year. Lanzarote accounts for around 1.4 million of this total – with the majority of its visitors arriving on flights from countries in Northern Europe such as the UK and Germany.
The islands primary attraction is of course its incredibly clement climate – as this enables tourists to enjoy days in the sun even during December. But there´s also much more here than just beaches and sun loungers alone – not least as Lanzarote boasts some of the most surreal scenery on the planet.
This was created during the 18th century by volcanic activity which transformed the interior of the island into a wasteland of lava fields and spent volcanic peaks. Occupying a surface area of around 200km square – this entire area is now one of Spain´s best loved national parks and a UNESCO protected biosphere. Welcoming close to one million curious tourists every year.
Visitors can choose from a wide selection of paces to stay on the island. With hotels, apartments and villas in Lanzarote all available – often at prices much lower than on other Spanish holiday islands such as the Balearics.
Apartments in Lanzarote also offer exceptional value for money for example, with a seven night stay on a centrally located complex in the main resort of Puerto del Carmen costing from just €180 per week. Whilst villas in Playa Blanca, the southern most resort, can be rented out from as little as €400 per week.
